“Ezekiel 16 (Harlot You Adore)” & “Scales Fall”

After playing around with a few song concepts, Ezekiel 16 was the next to emerge as a complete song.  My inspiration came directly from scripture (as well as a little from my own failings.)
Ezekiel chapter 16 is on of the most heart wrenching chapters in the Bible.  It is an allegory of unfaithful Israel and God’s unwavering faithfulness.  I really like the lyrics to this one.

Ezekiel 16 ( Harlot You Adore) might be track 6 on “The Wind on Your Face EP.”  I say “might be” because, though I love the song, I think the recording I ended up with is the weakest of the 7 songs we tracked.  I am debating whether leaving it off the release will give my disk a more solid and complete sound or not…  We will see.   I might make the track an Internet download exclusive or something since I paid to get it mastered.

Video from when I wrote the Song:

Lyrics:

Verse 1:
Naked and Bloody You found me
A mere infant on the ground
You picked me up
I feel your great arms surround me
Dry my tears
heavenly father hold me close now and fill my cup

Chorus:
Forgive me Father for i have sinned
turned my back on you again
And I’m not worthy to be called yours
Guess i’m the Harlot that you adore

Verse 2:
With Gold and Silver You crowned me
Dressed me in linen and Silk
and even after all your kindness
i still hunger for filth
I can’t seem to keep my eyes
from the right or the left
i’m so unfaithful and loveless
yet you still haven’t left

(Chorus)

Ending:
I feel your great arms surround me
dry my tears
heavenly father hold me close now
take my fears!

“Scales Fall” was the third song I wrote since learning guitar and it was a bit of a departure from what I had written before it.  This was the first where I tried something like plam-muting.  This track was inspired by a few stories.  One was of Jesus healing a blind man.  The other is an exchange between Christ and Paul where Paul asks that this “thorn” that is plaguing him be removed.
Scales Fall did not end up on the EP and I haven’t really played it in atleast 6 months.  It was a good learning experience, and I like the lyrics, but I’ve just chosen to invest more in other songs.

Video from When i first wrote the song:

Lyrics:

Verse 1:

Blind From Birth
created to display God’s glory
Saliva and Dirt
i can feel my eyes caked with Earth

Wash in Siloam
I hear Him say to me
little did i know
my God was about to set me free

Chorus:

Now i’m free from this prison
and i see the glorious Son

Verse 2:

I prayed three times
for this thorn to go away
not what i had in mind
my God chose another way

Lord i am weak
and desperate for your rest
then He said to me
“My power’s made perfect in your weakness!”

Chorus:

Now i’m free from this prison
and i see the glorious Son (x2)

Ending:

Now i’m free from this prison,
free from this prison yeah
and i see the son, i see the glorious son
Now i’m free from this prison,
free from this prison yeah
And i know that the battle
know that it’s already won
